ADHD / Autism Diagnostic Assessment

Sensational Healing offers comprehensive and compassionate ADHD / Autism assessments for children and adults. The assessment process includes a combination of interviews, standardised questionnaires and observations. Further assessments can determine if specific learning disorders are present and can also be offered after cognitive testing has been completed.

We take a holistic approach to ADHD assessment, considering all aspects of the individual's life, including their family, school, and work. The assessment report provides a detailed understanding of the individual's ADHD symptoms and strengths, as well as recommendations for treatment and support.

Autism diagnostic assessment is conducted by our Occupational Therapist or Psychologist who have completed additional training, we are able to offer autism assessments, typically using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2 (ADOS-2). This process typically takes 3-4 sessions plus a comprehensive assessment report, however it is our preference that we take a multidisciplinary approach to autism assessment, especially for children whom have a history of trauma, due to the overlap of symptoms and how they present. Ideally, children being assessed for Autism Spectrum Disorder will have been reviewed by Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology and Psychology prior to a diagnosis being made.

If you are concerned that you or your child may have ADHD or autism, we encourage you to contact us for an assessment. This will help you to better understand the condition, develop strategies to manage symptoms, and gain the relevant support.

Functional Capacity Evaluation

A common assessment used in NDIS applications, these assessments are completed by all our Occupational Therapists, and aim to understand how a person's illness, trauma, injury, neuro diversity, delay or disability, impacts their everyday functioning. This type of assessment is undertaken through a combination of observation, family interview and questionnaires.

Typically allow 5 sessions for completion of this assessment, and sometimes more for older children or adults. This assessment also comes with a comprehensive assessment report. Please note Sensational Healing Allied Health does not offer FCE assessments for SILS or SDA applications for NDIS due to the complex nature of these applications.

Speech and Language Assessment

For children who present with more mild speech and language difficulties, we offer a stand alone speech assessment clinic. This assessment gives parents and understanding of their child's strengths and difficulties and a guide to intervention that can be done at home, or just for peace of mind that your child is progressing in their speech development. Allow 3-4 sessions plus a comprehensive report.

Sensory integration Assessment

For children presenting with more complex sensory processing, coordination and gross motor difficulties, we offer a comprehensive assessment of sensory and motor function. Completed by our Ayres Sensory Integration certified Occupational Therapists, this assessment allows for a much deeper understanding into why a child may be having considerable motor and coordination disorder and the tools used also help to identify if Developmental Coordination Disorder may be present. Allow 3-4 sessions for testing as well as a comprehensive assessment report.

Learning Assessment

Learning assessments are used to identify and understand a child's strengths and weaknesses in academic areas. They can be used to diagnose learning disabilities, track progress over time, and inform instructional planning.

Sensational Healing offers comprehensive learning assessments for children of all ages. Their assessments are conducted by experienced and qualified occupational therapists who take a holistic approach to learning, considering all aspects of the child's development and environment.

The first step in a learning assessment at Sensational Healing is a parent interview. This interview allows the therapist to gather information about the child's developmental history, academic progress, and any concerns that the parents may have.

Once the therapist has gathered all of the necessary information, they will develop a personalised assessment plan. This plan may include standardised tests, informal assessments, and observations to develop a comprehensive report that outlines the child's strengths and weaknesses, as well as recommendations for intervention.

Personality Disorders

The assessment process typically includes a combination of interviews, questionnaires, and observations. Sensational Healing takes a holistic approach to personality disorder assessment, considering all aspects of the individual's life, including their family, school, and work.

The report provides a detailed understanding of the individual's personality disorder symptoms and strengths, as well as recommendations for treatment and support. Sensational Healing's personality disorder assessment services help individuals to better understand their condition, develop strategies to manage their symptoms, and get the support they need to live a fulfilling and successful life.

Cognitive Assessment

Conducted by our psychologists and provisional psychologists, we offer cognitive (IQ) testing for clients from 4 years through to adulthood. This type of assessment takes 4-5 sessions depending on the needs of each client plus a comprehensive assessment report.

Developmental Assessment

Development Assessment - this process is designed to assess young children, typically the year before they commence formal schooling. This allows parents to have a clear understanding of their child's strengths as well as areas that may require more support. Depending on the outcome of the assessment, this report can be used to support an application for early childhood intervention under the NDIS.

For example, a young person with individual difficulties such as low confidence, may work with a psychologist, however a family going through a separation may be more suited to work with one of our social workers. Our Client Care Officers are a great resource if you are unsure which type of therapist is best suited to you.
